More Information on FIRST
The fluid power industry has taken a
proactive role with FIRST, donating
hundreds of thousands of dollars to each years competitions. The result has
been that about 70% of the teams have implemented a pneumatic solution on
their robot. In addition, industry professionals presented pneumatics at the
regional Kickoffs. We also were part of a FIRST program that broadcast
streaming interactive video to all the teams.

FIRST is an acronym which stands for "For Inspiration and
Recognition of Science and Technology". There WEB site is at
www.USFirst.org. Check what the Fluid Power Distributors Association
is doing.
FIRST Competition
They are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to generate
an interest in science and engineering among today's youth.

Kickoff 2003 in
Richmond
Virginia Commonwealth
University and FIRST in .pdf format
FIRST
decided on a regional Kickoff for the game in 2002. In Richmond, Virginia
the lovely campus of Virginia Commonwealth University played host. Bad
weather in the Carolinas limited some attendance but 40 teams from all over
Virginia watched the live-feed video from FIRST in Manchester, attended
their choice of three workshops and best of all got their kits. Click on the
